  Letter of Recommendation

As the dean of School of Journalism and Communication at Wuhan University, it’s an honor for me to recommend one of my students Shao Jingzhu as a competent candidate for acceptance into your graduate program.

I appreciate the talents of this bright young girl demonstrated during her academic studies in our school, as I know, her scores of major courses are very good and heads her same grade, which could be verified by her transcript. Shao Jingzhu was very active and innovative in academic research, especial on theory of radio and television, criticism and comments on audio- visual media. Most of her papers were original in viewpoints, sharp in language, profound and forward-looking on the current situation and development and were assessed as excellent models by our school. She set up a separate flag in practice, some of her advertisement works won honors in provincial competitions. As the most industrious student in our non-linear lab, she was diligent in program production. All of her professors highly appraised her as the pioneer stuent.

Though the grading system in our university is strict, her average score of 85 ranked her among the best. I think this is due to her rigorous attitude toward study and her strong capability of learning. In 2008 for her excellent performance in academic studies and English ability, she was sent to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as the exchange student. On her return back from Singapore we were amazed to find that she has made great improvement both in broadcasting production skills and theories knowledge of film. From her transcript

you could know that she even got A in one practical course Audio in Media by NTU, one hard subject for the student majored in journalism and communication. In her exchange life in NTU she has set up very good personal friendship with American professor Bradley Freeman. She was sent to take internship in CCTV news channel, where she improved herself greatly in short time. At the end of her internship she could complete the work of reporting domestic news independently.

Shao Jingzhu is so earnest, enthusiastic and mature in thinking, seldom in her peers. I recognize her abilities of study, research and participation in social work that she is qualified to be eolled by our interview graduate in Wuhan University. But she chose to make further studies, a new speciality for her, in your university. Therefore I would like to lend my full support to this top class student for her admission to your postgraduate program. She would be as good as in our university. Sincerely hope you will give her application favorable consideration, as she truly deserves so. You would like this lovely and diligent student.

Dear Colleagues:

I am Head of the Department of International Finance in the School of Economics at the Beijing University, perhaps the most prestigious university in China, and I am writing to recommend Mr. Hui Dushu, one of my favorite students, for acceptance into your Master&aposs program.

I got to know him personally last semester when he was taking the course of Special Topics on International Finance that I was teaching. In the class, he showed great interest in economics. He studied conscientiously and often talked with me after the class about the questions that he had come across in his readings. Once when we talked about the country&aposs ongoing restructuring of its tax system, he delved into the increasing cost of tax evasion. We then discussed several methods of calculating the cost. As we talked, I found that he was very skilled in expressing his ideas through diagrammatic curves and mathematics. Recognizing that the government&aposs attitudes to acts oftax evasion will affect not only people&aposs behavior but also the cost of levying taxes, he saw possible solutions to the problem in the Game Theory. I encouraged him to pursue this idea. He said he didn&apost know much about the Game Theory and proceeded to borrow some essays by Nash from me. He thus left me with a deep impression.

Studying with conscientiousness, Mr. Hui often came up with creative ideas. Unlike some other students, he studied not to just pass the exams but to really improve his knowledge and expertise. He stands out among his fellow classmates with an unmistakable thirst for genuine understanding of the country&aposs economic realities and problems. That has won him appreciation from not just me but my colleagues as well. But he did do well in exams too. In the final exam of last semester, he got a high score of 90 for my course.

He often talks with me about his ideal to become an economist. To help quench his thirst for knowledge, I have lent many of my own books to him andtutored him in his self-study program. He has been much more engrossed in doing independent research than preparing for exams, but his grades still keep him ranked among the top 25% of his class. I think he is a very intelligent young fellow.

Mr. Hui has a good command of the English language. As he is well acquainted with me, he has often helped me in my own research by translating some English essays that I am too busy to translate. His translations are usually quite good. His oral English is good too. Compared with other Chinese students who may be applying to your program, I think Mr. Hui should be considered more favorably.

Well grounded in the theories of economics and the methodologies of economic research, and proficient in English, Mr. Hui should make an outstanding student in graduate studies. I have not seen many Chinese students who are so intent on achieving an academic career in economics. If you accept him, you will find that his drive and sense of purpose very contagious among the students. In view of all that I know of him, I strongly recommend him. If youwant to know more about him, please don&apost hesitate to contact with me.

  Sincerely,

  Ming Jiaoshou

Professor, Dean of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Department,

President of Academic Committee, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

  To whom it may concern:

I am a senior engineer and the head of Transmission Business Department of Great Dragon Telecommunications Group. As the instructor of him in his graduation fieldwork, I am very glad to write this letter in support of Mr. Gregory Tang‘s application for studying in your university.

I got to know Mr. Tang in 19xx when I was the head of a research and development team on 2.5G SDH optical telecommunications transmitting system, a part of the State 863 Program. He was recommended to me as a top student of Peking Post and Telecommunications University. After strict examinations, I accept him as a member of our team. Although Mr. Tang worked with us for only one year, his research ability, diligence, and team spirit really impressed all of us.

Mr. Tang has strong independent research and exploit ability. When working in our team, he was responsible for the research task of mapping four 34Mb/s signals into a STM-1. He creatively solved the problem of De-mapping and jitter restriction of PDH signals in SDH system. This research raised the transport efficiency of 34Mb/s signals by 33% so as to meet users‘ higher demand. This technology successfully passed the test of the Information Industry Ministry and was applied to the broadcasting and TV transmission experimental network of HuNan Province later.

Mr. Tang is proficient in English. He can communicate with foreign specialists in English, which is rare among Chinese young people. I think language will not be an obstacle for his study and life abroad.

Telecommunications industry is a rising industry in China. Chinese government is giving full support to its development. I support Mr. Tang‘s decision, and hope that he will come back to make more contribution to our motherland after he finishes his program abroad. I would be very grateful if you could give his application your fullest consideration.

  Yours sincerely,
